From Busan with Bike

To Fukuoka:

Before you get to the terminal, I suggest getting your food and drinks in town for the boat ride. There's not much in the terminal and less on board. A Subway sandwich or some bakery goods, some snacks, water, drinks (you can carry it through security), etc.

Park your bike at the north end near the big gate onto the docks, Google Maps is outdated but it's here: https://goo.gl/maps/UactiZfFVMUzCFQt7
Kakao Maps has it as it is today: http://kko.to/akxUBzD0H

Bring all of your documents with you as you walk around the building or through the parking lot to the nearest elevator that will bring you up to Departures. Find your company and check-in. You'll go through the standard passenger steps and then wait on the side for someone to come out and take you to customs.

The customs process is pretty simple but the customs officers seem to live in misery and aspire to share their grim attitudes onto anyone who enters. They check your papers, you get your bike and take it through the gate, they glance at it and give you back your papers. You might have to show them in your bags/cases, and you might not. If it's not attached to your bike, you'll have to remove it and carry it with you (ask if you can check luggage with the boat company worker while you're there). Then it's back to the Departures area to wait until boarding time.

After you board the ship, check-in with the info desk and they'll have a crew member take you down to get your bike and load it in the cargo hold. Ride it in, watch them strap it, check the straps, go back to the cabin. Find your room and claim your floor mat (if going economy). I recommend hitting the boat shower/onsen right away so that you can beat the crowds. Grab a beer from the vending machines (You need Japanese Yen) and go up top to watch the ship pull out of Busan and enjoy the city lights.

In the morning, you'll have to go to the info desk and a crew member will take you down to offload the bike. You'll park it and then go back up to get your stuff and exit with the rest of the passengers. Go through customs and immigration for yourself (boat company staff will be looking for you) and then give your documents for the bike to the staff there. You'll have to wait an hour or so. Then the customs guy comes for form signing and payment. Then you wait some more. Then you go out to the bike to enter Japan. Keep left.
